This passage in Exodus is a personal exchange between God and Moses. Moses doubts his ability to do what God is commanding. God’s response is illuminating to our topic of God as Creator. God reminds Moses that He is well aware of Moses’ limitations, since He made him. God Himself will provide for Moses. God as Creator is also Sustainer. There is really no separation between the attribute of creator and sustainer. And God’s sustaining is very personal. This should be of great comfort to us, the God who created us, sustains us. The challenge to us is to obey His commands. We should do so, since the Creator sustains.
11And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the blind? have not I the Lord? 12Now therefore go, and I will be thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say (Exodus 4:11-12). 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day (Genesis 1:1-5)..
In the beginning God simply spoke and the world was created. There is no explanation given for the details of the processes that might have been involved in creation but rather a statement of fact, almost in a matter-of-fact manner...assumed. A logical conclusion from the brevity of "God created", and "And God said" is that the act of creation was instantaneous, from nothing to amazing in the blink of an eye. So what are we to learn from these opening words of scripture? Well, God is powerful and the distance between His thoughts and actions is quite short, and in fact, not present. God creates as a part of His being. God is, and therefore, God creates. This powerful God should be worshiped. We are called to a world that desperately needs to hear the Good News of the Gospel. The Gospel has it origin in the original Creation. In the beginning God created Man-male and female he created them. He was in relationship and fellowship with Man. The Gospel is the restoration of the relationship between God and Man....this is indeed good news....to all that will, come into a relationship with the Creator.
