3Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle. 4Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together (Zechariah 10:3-4).
20And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20-22).
Zechariah in this passage describes the Messiah as the cornerstone coming out of Judah. The corner or cornerstone is the starting point of any foundation, the reference point for the rest of the building. As this applies to the Messiah, the inference is that He would be the source of power and strength. And the People would look to the Messiah for guidance and leadership. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians calls Christ the chief cornerstone. Without Christ there would be no foundation to our faith and our connection to Christ is what actually allows fellowship with God. We cannot approach the holiness of God apart from Christ. Christ is the reference point for our faith and we should look to Him to keep our lives in proper alignment to God’s purposes. Christ as the cornerstone is the fullness of the Godhead bodily: creator, sustainer, and redeemer.
