8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life (Romans 5:8-10).
It is the reconciliation to our Creator that becomes the salvation of our souls. It is God that acted to reconcile and He did so while we were in rebellion against Him. This is the love of God. God’s love is therefore sacrificial and present always. And so our salvation depends on God and God alone. This salvation is not based on our own merit but rather it is based on the work of Christ. The work of Christ literally atones for our rebellion and therefore removes the barrier to a relationship with God. This is the promise of God that we are saved by the Son’s life. Since our Savior lives so do we.
