23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. 24 And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it (Ezekiel 34:23-24).
This prophecy of Ezekiel is a prophecy concerning Christ. God’s plan of redemption has not changed throughout the ages. The prophecy that the messiah would be from the house of David is just one of hundreds of prophecies fulfilled in the person and work of Christ. This particular prophecy is in the form of a promise and a covenant. That form is that we shall be His people and He shall be our God. Therefore, salvation is actualized as the fulfillment of a promise and so we are Abraham’s children: children of the promise.
