3 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts (Malachi 3:1).
The sovereignty of God is always made manifest in the fulfillment of prophecy. This prophecy, written hundreds of years before it was fulfilled, concerns the coming of both the Messiah and the forerunner of the Messiah. The forerunner, John the Baptist, preached a message of repentance in preparation for the coming of Christ. Christ is the mediator of the new covenant, a covenant in which He restores the proper relationship of God to Man through the atonement. The atonement by Christ renders the need for the earthly Temple no longer necessary.
