2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. 3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice (Proverbs 21:2-3).
The only frame of reference we should have is that of God’s. God as part of His being, and consistent with His sovereignty; looks at the heart. The heart is where ultimate purposes are known. The bottom line is that the reason we act and do things matters to God. For example, God desires us to act with justice. When we act with justice in mind we are not just going through the motions, we are inwardly trying to do what is right in God’s eyes. This is important because it is only God’s perspective that really has any lasting purpose. That purpose is the regeneration of His children.
