3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. 5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. 6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee (Genesis 17:3-6).
The promises to Abraham were extraordinary. Not only would he be the father of many nations, but also kings would come from his line. The lineage of Abraham would form the hope for the world. It is not though merely the genetic line that is the hope but rather the spiritual line. Remember Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. It is this righteousness that is born from the spiritual line of Abraham. This righteousness is a gracious gift from the Heavenly Father to all whose faith is in Him.
