24 The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods (Psalm 24:1-2).
We have discussed previously that God’s sovereignty and the idea of ownership should be considered as connected to each other. There is no ambiguity in scripture concerning the identity of the Creator. Yet, many today deny the need for a Creator. Without a Creator there is no one to answer to except ourselves. Either nature or we become the creator. Sovereignty then becomes an extension either of the created world or ourselves. But this is not the reality of life. God in His sovereignty created the earth and all that is in it. We are wholly accountable then to God alone. This, of course, does not give us a license to mistreat the creation but rather we should respect it as the creation of God.
