8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec (Hebrews 5:8-10).
Christ is the author of salvation. In order to be the author of salvation, He had to be obedient to the Father in life, suffering, and death. Christ in turn desires all who follow Him to be obedient. Since Christ is not from the earthly line of priesthood, He is able to advocate for us before God the Father. As high priest to those that are obedient, He will intercede based upon His own sacrifice. So we are saved through Christ’s righteousness, credited to us as a pure gift. And so the only proper response for us is to obey with gratitude.
