6Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:(Psalm 8:6).
25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him (1 Corinthians 15: 25-27).
There is some debate as to whether Psalm 8 is a Messianic Psalm. The debate hinges around whether ‘him’ refers to Man in general or Christ specifically. My thoughts are that Psalm 8 is Messianic. Here is why: the second half of verse 8 indicates that all things are placed under His feet, and Man in his present state simply doesn’t have dominion over all things. So, it is the Messiah, who will have all things placed ‘under His feet’. Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 15 validates that Psalm 8 is Messianic and has fulfillment in Christ. Christ has dominion over all things including death. Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection place even death under His control. Additionally, Christ will reign until His enemies are placed under His feet. If all enemies including such things as death are placed under His control and dominion, then we can feel confident that all things are under His purview. We can then rejoice and agree with the Psalmist that the Messiah, Christ Jesus, has authority over all things.
