4The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4).
5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec (Hebrews 5:5-6).
The author of Hebrews confirms that David’s prophecy in Psalm 110 applies to Christ. Christ is a priest in the order of Melchizedek. Christ is from a royal and holy priesthood. The significance of this should not be lost. Remember from Genesis that Melchizadek was the high priest at Salem (Jerusalem) that blessed Abraham. In all likelihood the Melchizadek from Genesis was the pre-incarnate Christ. Christ is from of old, eternally begotten, everlasting.
As high priest, Christ offers Himself on our behalf. He intercedes for us. During this Easter/Lenten season we look toward Christ as the high priest, and as He did for Abraham, He blesses us. This is the good news of the Gospel.
