9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; 10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife (Genesis 25:9-10).
It is noteworthy that both Isaac and Ishmael buried Abraham. Abraham was loved by his sons. It must have been hard on Ishmael though, knowing that all of the inheritance had gone to Isaac. But this was the providence of God. God knows the beginning from the end and it is always according to His will, and not according to human will. It is also according to God’s understanding; in the end human understanding just plain falls short. Also remember that Sarah was buried in what would later become the Promised Land and so Abraham’s burial spot placed him in the future Promised Land. This was no accident.
