4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? (Proverbs 30:4)
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven (John 3:13).
2(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) 3Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: (Romans 1:2-4)
6But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:6-9).
Proverbs 30 gives clues that the Messiah is the Son of God. Additionally, there is evidence that the Messiah would come down to earth and subsequently return to heaven. While it is unlikely that the Old Testament prophets would have fully understood the implications of the events they prophesized, the New Testament writers were able to connect the events. The Gospel of John and letter to the Romans both confirm Christ as both the Son and the Savior. When you consider that Solomon wrote Proverbs some 900 years before Christ, the amazing nature of scripture is made evident. The nature of scripture is that it is the word of God. And the word of God points to Christ as Son and Savior. Praise God.
