1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. 2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of (Genesis 22:1-2).
The King James translation here is a little off. God does not tempt anyone, but rather, in this case He was testing Abraham. Remember too, that when God tests, He already knows the outcome. So the point of these stories is for our benefit, so that we know that God demands radical obedience. A word of remembrance though is that God asks us in this day to be obedient to spreading the good news of Gospel, feeding the hungry, healing the sick; this is what obedience means to our God. God never wants us to do wrong in His Name or act in an evil manner, ever.
