4 Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me (Hosea 13:4).
The deity of Christ was stated long before He came as savior. The necessity of our savior being God is due to the action required to save us. Before a holy and just God we have no hope on our own accord. We must be covered and protected in order to escape the wrath of God. This is so because we have all gone astray and fall short of God’s standards. In short, without Christ, we are as Jonathon Edwards stated, “sinners in the hands of an angry God”. So, only the perfect reflection of God the Father could possible cover us and protect us. This is God’s will that we should not perish. But God couldn’t violate His own nature by ignoring our sin. God had to deal with it. God dealt with our sin, once and for all, by the blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world-for our benefit and to the glory of God.
