11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him (John 2:11).
The first recorded miracle of Jesus is the turning of water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee. There were several purposes of the miracles that Christ performed. One purpose was to restore the situation, or person. This is what Christ does; He restores. A second purpose was to strengthen the faith of those that witnessed the miracles. Miracles by their very nature violate the established laws of the Universe and in doing so provide undeniable proof of Christ’s control of the Universe. After all, He is the Creator and can exercise sovereign control over all that is in the created world. And so miracles are a part of God’s sovereign control, and are the manifested actions of God exercising this control in this world. Miracles are ultimately for our good and God’s glory.
