23Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! 24That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! 25For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. 28But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?(Job 19:23-28).
24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:24-29).
This prophecy from Job predicts that Christ would stand on earth and that there will one day be a resurrection of the dead. Job looked forward to a time when the Messiah would walk on the earth and that death would be defeated. The fulfillment of this prophecy can occur due to the life, death and resurrection of Christ. We know now that Christ will return a second time so this prophecy from Job has a future fulfillment as well. The gospel of John makes it clear that there will be a future time when all people will be resurrected. It will coincide with the return of Christ to earth. We, like Job, know that our redeemer lives and can place our hope in the final fulfillment of this prophecy.
