14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).
18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Matthew 1:18-23).
26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS (Luke 1:26-31).
The prophet Isaiah wrote this prophecy over 700 hundred years before Christ was born. God made the identity of the Messiah seemingly unmistakable. We have learned so far that the Messiah would be a descendent of Abraham, be a descendent of Isaac, be a descendent of Jacob (Israel), be of the tribe of Judah, be a descendent of King David, be born in Bethlehem, be a teacher, be destined to die by crucifixion, have His hands, side and feet pierced, be betrayed by a friend, be rejected by His people, be the Son of the Living God, and now be born of a Virgin. There were other prophecies we have discussed thus far and there are many more to be discussed in the coming days. The Messiah can be only one person in history. Christ is the total fulfillment of so many prophecies. It is simply inconceivable to think that anyone else could fit the requirements of the Messiah. Either Christ is the Messiah or the whole thing is a gigantic hoax. But if it is a hoax, it is a hoax witnessed by thousands, many of who died martyrs deaths defending the veracity of the accounts of Christ’s life. If you still doubt Christ as Messiah, remember too that He is the son of a carpenter from a small town in Galilee, which was an insignificant Roman outpost, and He was a poor man that never traveled more than 150 miles from His home, yet our calendars are based on His life and human history has been altered by His existence. Remarkable! Worship God!
