19Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead (Isaiah 26:19).
23Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. 25Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world (John 11:23-27).
This prophecy from Isaiah describes the resurrection. The Messiah we learn has power even over death. In the passage from the Gospel of John, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. Just prior to this, Mary and Martha proclaim that Christ is the Son of God. The actual resurrection to life then is preceded by an expression of faith. Christ is the resurrection and life. The promise to all that believe is that one-day through Christ’s power we will be raised imperishable to life.
