20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight (Isaiah 5:20-21).
It is important to note that God is the frame of reference for what is good. God is good and God is light. We as imperfect beings lack both the power and wisdom to decide what is right in God’s eyes. This is why scripture is very clear as to what God sees as good. We are simply to obey God and not rely on our own understanding or way. God as creator is sovereign over all of creation. This sovereignty means that His light is the light that will ultimately permeate the whole of creation. We should therefore seek the true light, and avoid the counterfeit light that in reality is utter darkness.
