14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it (He) shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel (Genesis 3: 14-15).
4But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (Galatians 4: 4).
The first messianic prophecy concerning Christ is in Genesis 3:15. In this prophecy God is telling Satan that there will one day be a Messiah born of a women. Additionally we learn that although Satan will strike against Christ, Christ will ultimately have the victory. In Galatians 4:4 we see the partial fulfillment of the prophecy. The final fulfillment is seen in Christ’s victory at the Cross. The victory of the Cross is through Christ’s atonement for sin and through His defeating of death by the resurrection. Christ has dealt the final blow to Satan by destroying death (wages of sin is death) and providing a path for restoring the relationship between God and Man. This truly strikes at the head of Satan.
