13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed (Daniel 7:13-14).
9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (Acts 1:9-11).
20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all (Ephesians 1:20-23).
33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end (Luke 1:33).
The prophet Daniel describes a vision in which he sees the Son of Man come before the Ancient of Days to receive an everlasting kingdom. The Son of Man is a term Christ used to describe Himself. The Ancient of Days is God the Father. Christ is the fulfillment of this prophecy. The book of Acts, Ephesians and the Gospel of Luke all confirm this prophecy as being fulfilled in Christ. Daniel wrote this prophecy concerning Christ during Babylonian captivity over 500 years before Christ was born. In the next few days we will review further amazing prophecies that Daniel had regarding the Messiah, but in today’s reading we know that Daniel foresaw the coming of the Messiah and the coming of an everlasting kingdom in which the Messiah would have all dominion. Christ’s dominion is total, and while today this applies to the Church as the body of Christ (Ephesians 1:23), there will be a time when all Creation will acknowledge His dominion. We, like Daniel, wait in hope for that day.
