1Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; 2While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: (Ecclesiastes 12: 1-2).
Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes literally means preacher. A preacher tries to say it like it is, with the idea of helping those who hear the message. So, Solomon is giving advice, advice based on wisdom and knowledge of the consequences of not seeking and obeying God. Wisdom was the gift that Solomon had requested of God (1 Kings 3: 7-13). And this wisdom is what Solomon is trying to impart to us.
Solomon appeals to us to remember the Creator, our Creator, while we still have the opportunity to do so. None of us knows what the next day, or for that matter the next instant will bring. This is not to make you feel guilty or to be depressing, but simply to point out that we should seek God. We should seek God in all things and at all times. Please do not delay in seeking the Creator; he is ready and waiting to hear from you. The Creator is ready.
