6For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. 8The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. 9The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts (Haggai 2: 6-9).
Haggai was a prophet to the Southern kingdom (Judah) at the end of the Babylonian exile. During this time, Zerubbabel was beginning to have the Temple rebuilt after its’ destruction at the beginning of the exile.
Prophetically, this passage speaks of a future time in which the heavens and the earth will be shaken and all nations will seek the Lord in the presence of His glory. What an enormously comforting thought, the Creator’s glory will be present with Man. The result of the presence of God’s glory is peace. We all desire and long for the peace that our Creator promises. There will be no worries, troubles or strive.
The very presence of the Creator’s glory will give the creation exactly what it has always needed, peace. As we have discussed in numerous passages over the last several weeks, the Creator is in the process of restoring and will ultimately restore His creation to a proper relationship to Himself. Once this restoration occurs, there will be everlasting peace. We as individuals, as God’s people, were created to one day be in the very presence of God-as new creation. I can think of no greater truth, and this is indeed good news. The Creator is peace.
