26While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. 32Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways (Proverbs 8: 26-32).
As was the case with the book of Psalms, several Proverbs examine the creation and the Creator (Proverbs 3, 8, 16 and others). In addition to being a creation proverb, Proverbs 8 is messianic as well. God is declared creator and He is clearly before all things. But there seems to be more than one person present at the beginning. In verses 27 and 30, there is clearly another present. It is Christ who is present, and He delighted in the creation. In verse 32, there is a conclusion and a command. Since Christ was present at the beginning and He delighted in Man, we are to keep His ways.
While you will never find the word trinity in the Bible, it is important to realize that there is evidence in a number of places in scripture (Gen 1:26, 3:22; Proverbs 8; John 1:1, 20:28; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 10: 9,13: and several others) that the one true God is indeed of one substance but present in three distinct persons: Father, Son (Christ) and Holy Spirit. Christ was begotten not made, one in being with the Father, through Him all things were made (Nicene Creed). The Creator was present before the foundation of the world and the Creator is one.
