6Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. 7Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned (Song of Solomon 8: 6-7).
Song of Solomon is a love story and while it is debatable as to whether it is a representation of Christ and His bride (the Church) that it is about love is really not debatable. In verses 6 and 7, love is portrayed as strong and unquenchable. The love that is described here seems to be able to overcome even death and it seems almost irresistible. This kind of love is rare and of infinite worth. It is unconditional.
This is the kind of love that the Creator has for His Creation. The forces of nature, and even death cannot come up against it. There is nothing of comparable worth that can be given for this love. The Creator’s love and grace toward you is so strong. Think about your most precious relationship in this world. Think about what this relationship means to you. Our earthly relationships are very important but they pale in comparison to our relationship with God. It is the relationship between you and your Creator that is ultimately so very important. Please do not resist the Creator’s love for you; His love, in relationship with you, is unconditional.
