25To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. 26Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. 27Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? 28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40: 25-31).
This passage in Isaiah is one of my personal favorites. The combination of the Creator’s power and steadfastness is very comforting. God is in control and He does not grow weary. Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t grow weary? Life is hard at times and it would be easy just to give up when circumstances get rough. And circumstances do get rough/tough, don’t they? God as Creator is clearly able to sustain and maintain His creation, but the Creation is currently in waiting. His Creation is waiting for the restoration and renewal that will occur at the consummation of all things.
Verse 31 is a promise and an assurance. It is a promise and assurance that the result of God’s restoration will be that His people, those that wait upon Him, will never again tire or become weary. So, when you are tired or worried or overwhelmed by life’s circumstances, remember that your Creator is able to sustain you and will one day restore us all. Until that day we are to wait in hope upon the Lord. The Creator is our hope and assurance, and you can count in Him; He has no equal.
