6Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee (Nehemiah 9:6).
The context of this verse is that the walls of Jerusalem had just been rebuilt after being destroyed during the Babylonian captivity. Nehemiah had been made governor of Judah by Artaxerxes king of Persia and was sent back to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
In this verse, the people were praising God for the restoration of Jerusalem. The people of Jerusalem start their praising of God by acknowledging Him as creator of all. All includes heaven, the host of heaven and all the earth. God created every thing and every being-both human and heavenly. There is no ambiguity or doubt here, just a statement of fact and a response to the facts. The response of the creation to the Creator of all is a response of worship. The host of heaven worships the Creator, and we should do likewise. Worship is a heart-felt response. Part of worshipping God as creator of all is for us to give our all back to the Creator. The God that deserves the worship of the host of heaven certainly deserves to receive our very best as well. The Creator is all.
