8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee (Psalm 143:8).
The psalmist cries out to God and asks God to cause him to hear and cause him to know. The ability to ask God for hearing and knowledge is a sign of humility. It is not that God cannot make us hear or have knowledge of Him. It is that God knows that unless we approach Him with a humble heart, we will never actually put to action the things that God desires. Our old nature simply gets in the way. When we ask God for anything, we are acknowledging His sovereignty over the situation and perhaps more importantly we are walking according to our new nature through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is God that ultimately acts on our behalf and this is the good news of the Gospel.
