21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him (Genesis 5:21-24).
Enoch was a man of God. He literally never died but rather was taken up to heaven. There are New Testament references to Enoch in both Hebrews 11 and Jude. Hebrews clarifies that in deed Enoch was translated to heaven and Jude verifies that Enoch was a prophet. Enoch also was the father of Methuselah. One translation from Jones’ Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names for Methuselah is ‘when he is dead it shall be sent’. More about that tomorrow.
