16And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever (2 Samuel 7:16).
2The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. 3The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. 4And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain (2 Samuel 23:2-4).
Matthew Chapter 1
16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star (Revelation 22:16).
The prophecy from 2 Samuel 7 is a promise to King David that his throne would be established forever. This prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Christ’s earthly decent is from David (Matthew chapter 1). In the book of Revelation Christ is verified to be the root and offspring of David. The prophecy in 2 Samuel 23 portrays the Messiah as the light of the morning. We know from Revelation 22:16 that the bright and morning star is Christ.
Christ is King and light. The combination of these two qualities conveys the idea of fullness and completeness. Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He is the King of light and therefore darkness is eliminated by His presence. The light of Christ is spiritual as well. The King that is light uses His authority to drive out the darkness from our lives. We have a Messiah that is King and brings light into the darkest places of the world and lives.
